The ACCUPLACER is a placement exam used by Harris-Stowe State University to help determine your readiness for college-level math and English courses. If you have not submitted ACT or SAT scores, or if your scores do not meet placement benchmarks, you may be required to take the ACCUPLACER before registering for classes.

The ACCUPLACER Placement Test helps Harris-Stowe determine your readiness for college-level coursework in English and mathematics. Your scores ensure you are placed in courses that match your current skill level and set you up for academic success from your first semester.
You may be required to take the ACCUPLACER if:
You have not submitted ACT or SAT scores
Your ACT or SAT scores do not meet HSSU placement benchmarks
Additional placement information is needed before course registration
Placement testing helps ensure you receive the support and resources needed to thrive in your classes from day one.

The ACCUPLACER is a computer-based placement assessment designed to evaluate your skills in:
Reading
Writing
Mathematics
The exam is:
Untimed, allowing you to work at your own pace
Multiple-choice with adaptive questioning
Typically completed within 60–90 minutes
Used for course placement only—it does not affect admission decisions
Your results help advisors place you in the courses that best support your academic goals and long-term success.

Students who need to complete the ACCUPLACER can take the exam on campus by appointment.
