Accessing Your HSSU Student Platforms

Welcome to Harris-Stowe State University! We are excited to have you join our campus community and are here to support you every step of the way.

This guide will help you access the primary platforms you will use throughout your academic journey, including your Hornet Email, myHSSU Student Portal, and Canvas.

Once your accounts are activated, you'll have access to the essential tools needed for success at Harris-Stowe State University.

Before getting started, please have the following information available:

  • Your HSSU Student ID Number

  • The last four digits of your Social Security Number

hornet email (Outlook)

Your Hornet Email account is the University's primary method of communication.
Important updates, announcements, deadlines, and campus information will be sent to this account.

Email Address Format

  • First letter of your first name

  • Your full last name

  • Last three digits of your Student ID

    • Example: cpenny999@hornets.hssu.edu

    • Default Password: ?hssu + the last three digits of your Student ID

    • Example: ?hssu999

First-Time Login Steps

  1. Log in to your Hornet Email account

  2. Create a new password after your first login

  3. Check your email regularly for University communications

myhssu Student portal

The myHSSU portal is your central hub for managing your student information and academic records.

Login Information

Website: https://live.hssu.edu/ics

Username: Your Student ID Number

Password: hs + the last four digits of your Social Security Number

In myHSSU, you can:

  • View your class schedule

  • Check your account balance

  • Access important academic records and updates

  • Manage student information

canvas learning management system

Canvas is the University's online learning platform where you will access course materials, submit assignments, and communicate with instructors.

How to Access Canvas

  • Option 1: Single Sign-On Through myHSSU

    1. Log in to your myHSSU account

    2. Select Canvas Log In from the left-hand menu

    3. You will automatically be signed in to Canvas

  • Option 2: Direct Login
    Visit: https://hssu.instructure.com/login/canvas

Login Credentials:
Use the same username and password as your Hornet Email account

In Canvas, you can:

  • View assignments and course materials

  • Submit homework and projects

  • Message your professors

  • Access course announcements and resources

  • Track academic progress
