Making College Affordable Starts Here

Understanding the cost of attendance and the financial aid options available to you is an important part of planning for college. Review estimated tuition, fees, housing costs, scholarships, grants, and other financial assistance opportunities designed to help you achieve your educational goals at HSSU.

Your financial aid checklist

  • The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the first step to determining your eligibility for grants, loans, work-study opportunities, and many scholarships.

    Complete your FAFSA at StudentAid.gov as early as possible.

  • Additional documentation may be required before your financial aid can be processed.

    To view outstanding requirements:

    • Log into MYHSSU

    • Navigate to Finance Information

    • Access your Financial Aid Self-Service Portal

    Documents can be uploaded directly through the portal or emailed to the Office of Financial Assistance.

  • Students accepting federal student loans must complete:

    • Master Promissory Note (MPN)

    • Entrance Loan Counseling

    Parents interested in a Direct PLUS Loan must complete a separate application using their own FSA ID.

  • Once your FAFSA and required documents have been processed:

    • Review your financial aid package

    • Accept or decline loan offers

    • Monitor your account for updates and additional requirements

    Awards can be viewed through your Financial Aid Self-Service Portal.

  • The Pell Grant is federal aid that does not have to be repaid.

    Eligibility is determined by:

    • Student Aid Index (SAI)

    • FAFSA information

    • Enrollment status

    Eligible students may receive up to $7,395 annually based on federal guidelines.

  • Harris-Stowe offers a variety of merit-based and institutional scholarships designed to recognize academic achievement, leadership, service, and potential.

    Some scholarships are awarded automatically, while others may require:

    • Additional applications

    • Essays

    • Supporting documentation

    We encourage students to apply early and explore every available opportunity.

  • Want to earn money while gaining valuable work experience?

    The Student Worker Program offers paid on-campus employment opportunities across a variety of departments.

    Benefits include:

    • Flexible schedules

    • Professional skill development

    • Convenient on-campus work locations

    • Additional income to help offset educational expenses

    Positions are competitive and may require a resume and interview.

financial clearance matters

Before receiving a housing assignment, moving into the residence halls, or beginning classes, students must achieve financial clearance.

Financial clearance may be obtained through:

  • Approved financial aid

  • Scholarships

  • Payment plans

  • Personal payment arrangements

If your aid does not fully cover your balance, be sure to make arrangements before move-in and registration deadlines.
