Hornet Bridge Academy
The Hornet Bridge Academy is for conditionally admitted incoming first-time freshmen at Harris-Stowe State University
Students who participate in Hornet Bridge Academy will gain the tools needed to start college with confidence. Participants will build connections with other new students, faculty, and staff while learning important skills such as time management, academic success strategies, goal setting, and how to navigate campus resources. The program is designed to help students feel supported, prepared, and empowered for their first semester at Harris-Stowe.

The Hornet Bridge Academy is for conditionally admitted fall 2026 incoming first-time freshmen at Harris-Stowe State University

Students who participate in Hornet Bridge Academy will gain the tools needed to start college with confidence. Participants will build connections with other new students, faculty, and staff while learning important skills such as time management, academic success strategies, goal setting, and how to navigate campus resources. The program is designed to help students feel supported, prepared, and empowered for their first semester at Harris-Stowe.
Additionally, students who successfully complete the program will earn 1 credit hour toward their degree through the HSSU 0100 Seminar in Higher Education course, giving them an early academic start before the fall semester begins.

Hornet Bridge Academy takes place during the summer before the fall semester begins. For Summer 2026, sessions are scheduled for:
June 21 – June 26, 2026
July 5 – July 10, 2026
Each session concludes with the university’s Swarm Orientation, where students finalize schedules, housing, and important enrollment steps.

Incoming conditionally admitted freshmen will receive information about Hornet Bridge Academy after being admitted to Harris-Stowe State University. Students will complete the Hornet Bridge Academy enrollment form and registration process through Academic Engagement. Additional details and registration instructions will be shared via email.

what is an early alert
An Early Alert is a support tool—not a punishment. It helps Harris-Stowe identify academic, attendance, or behavioral concerns early so we can connect students with assistance before challenges become barriers to success.
What Happens After an Alert is Submitted?
The alert is reviewed by Academic Engagement
A team member contacts the student
Appropriate support resources are recommended
Faculty may receive follow-up updates regarding student outreach
Respond Quickly
Students are encouraged to respond as soon as possible—ideally within 48 hours of receiving an Early Alert communication—to ensure timely support and intervention.

Major changes are typically processed through with your success coach. We are happy to help you explore your options and connect you with the correct office, but the official change must be submitted through the appropriate academic department.

Academic probation means your cumulative GPA has fallen below the university’s required minimum. While this can feel stressful, it is also an opportunity to reset and improve your academic standing. Students on probation are encouraged to meet with an us, utilize tutoring and academic support services, and develop a plan to strengthen study habits and time management.

For conditionally admitted fall 2026 incoming first-time freshmen at Harris-Stowe State University, participation in the Hornet Bridge Academy is required. The program is designed to help students transition into college by providing academic preparation, campus connections, and tools for success before the fall semester begins.
