About the office of academic engagement

Hornet Bridge Academy

The Hornet Bridge Academy is for conditionally admitted incoming first-time freshmen at Harris-Stowe State University

Students who participate in Hornet Bridge Academy will gain the tools needed to start college with confidence. Participants will build connections with other new students, faculty, and staff while learning important skills such as time management, academic success strategies, goal setting, and how to navigate campus resources. The program is designed to help students feel supported, prepared, and empowered for their first semester at Harris-Stowe.

We're Here to Help You Succeed

Whether you're struggling in a class, feeling overwhelmed, unsure where to turn, or have received an Early Alert notification, the Academic Engagement team is here to support you. Our goal is to connect you with the resources, guidance, and strategies you need to stay on track and achieve your goals.

how to get help

Follow - up Support

  • “I’m struggling in a class”

  • “I missed classes and I’m worried about being dropped”

  • “I’m not sure what resources to use”

  • “I’m overwhelmed and need a plan”

what is an early alert

An Early Alert is a support tool—not a punishment. It helps Harris-Stowe identify academic, attendance, or behavioral concerns early so we can connect students with assistance before challenges become barriers to success.

What Happens After an Alert is Submitted?

  1. The alert is reviewed by Academic Engagement

  2. A team member contacts the student

  3. Appropriate support resources are recommended

  4. Faculty may receive follow-up updates regarding student outreach

Respond Quickly

Students are encouraged to respond as soon as possible—ideally within 48 hours of receiving an Early Alert communication—to ensure timely support and intervention.
