Congratulations on your admission to Harris-Stowe State University! You're officially on your way to joining Hornet Nation. Use this checklist to stay on track and ensure you're fully prepared for classes, campus life, and a successful start to your HSSU experience. Each step builds toward your first day as a Hornet.

By completing each item on this checklist, you'll be prepared to start your first semester with confidence. We can't wait to welcome you to Harris-Stowe State University—The Only HBCU in the Lou.

  • Secure your place at Harris-Stowe by completing your Intent to Enroll through the Future Hornet Portal.

    Required Deposits

    • $100 Enrollment Deposit

    • $75 New Student Orientation Fee

    • $175 Housing Fee (for residential students)

    Payments may also be made in person through the Bursar's Office.

  • Students who have not submitted qualifying ACT or SAT scores may be required to complete the ACCUPLACER Placement Test.

    Why It Matters

    Your results help determine the math and English courses that best support your academic success.

    Important: Complete the placement test at least three weeks before attending New Student Orientation.

  • Ensure all required materials have been received by the University:

    • Final high school transcript or GED documentation

    • Official college transcripts (transfer students)

    • ACT, SAT, or ACCUPLACER scores

    • Any additional admissions documents requested

    Once all documents are received, you'll be scheduled for courses based on your academic program.

    During Orientation, you'll:

    • Meet faculty and staff

    • Receive your class schedule

    • Begin building your HSSU community

    Register through the Future Hornet Portal to reserve your spot.

  • To avoid delays in registration, housing, or move-in, make sure your student account is financially cleared.

    Complete Your FAFSA

    • HSSU School Code: 002466

    • Submit all requested financial aid documentation

    • Review your financial aid award package

    • Establish a payment plan if needed

    Students must be financially cleared before receiving housing assignments.

  • Set Up:

    • Hornet Email

    • MyHSSU Student Portal

    • Canvas Learning Management System

    These platforms provide access to:

    • Class schedules

    • Financial aid information

    • Academic records

    • Course materials

    • Communication from faculty and staff

    Check your Hornet Email regularly—it is the University's official communication channel.

  • Planning to live on campus? Complete the following:

    Housing Checklist

    • Submit housing application

    • Select a roommate (optional)

    • Complete health history forms

    • Upload proof of meningococcal vaccination

    • Submit TB screening questionnaire

    • Receive housing assignment after financial clearance

    Housing applications are completed through the housing portal.

  • Every Hornet is assigned a Student Success Coach to help navigate college life.

    Your coach can assist with:

    • Schedule changes

    • Academic planning

    • Registration questions

    • Goal setting

    • Campus resources

    • Staying on track for graduation

    Don't wait until you have a problem—connect early and often.

  • Before arriving on campus:

    • Complete all housing requirements

    • Submit required health documents

    • Review the Move-In checklist

    • Pack essentials for your residence hall

    • Confirm your room assignment

    Move-In Day is your official welcome to the Hive and the beginning of your Hornet experience.

  • Before classes begin:

    • Activate your Virtual Student ID

    • Purchase a parking permit (if needed)

    • Register for RAVE Emergency Alerts

    These tools help keep you connected, informed, and safe throughout the semester.

  • Your Hornet journey officially takes flight during Welcome Week.
